Are We Mind, Body or What?
Are we a mind, body or what?
The Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche said in his Medicine Buddha Teachings that the body supports the mind and also the mind supports the body. That really seems to be the key point. It sees obvious that body supports mind. Stub your toe and you know pain. In the other direction, Buddhists have this game. We think we have a hand, but what is it? Is it the fingers, the palm, the knuckles? Is it all or none of the above? When you look closely, you see that body is always interpreted in mind.
Dr. Dan Siegel says that mind is a process that regulates (I prefer, of regulating) the flow of energy and information. If we know how to work with our mind, our sense of our physical world will eventually follow in step. Medicine Buddha is a way to tune our own mind into ultimate health. Working with our life situation in this way takes time, but every little bit helps.
